Limerick City

After 12 hours of sleep, Shawn and I awoke ready for a full day in Limerick! We started off with breakfast at the hotel, which was a buffet. There was a lot of meat...I'm noticing that about this place! Meat, meat, meat and potatoes too. It was delicious though so we filled up and headed out for the day.
On the map, it looked like we had quite a walk ahead of us, but everything here is much closer than it seems. We had a great walk through the city centre. We stopped at Arthur's Quay Park and there was also a shopping center there as well. Very different from malls back home! There was a beautiful view of King John's Castle and the countryside from Arthur's Quay as well!

Everywhere you look around here are really cute brick homes. They all are like duplex style and the thing that sets them apart are the crazy colored doors! I had to make sure to get a pic of a blue door :)

King John's Castle is in the center of Limerick City. We were able to climb up to the top of the tower for a picture of the countryside as well. What a view from up there! The Shannon River runs through Limerick and there are some really beautiful bridges across and a beautiful walkway along the side. You can get down on the rocks along the river as well to feed the ducks and swans and we came across a woman and her son tossing rocks into the water.

After our long walk, we stopped at Peter Clohessy's Bar for lunch. It is right on the river in Howley's Quay. There was a carvery lunch and free coffee afterward. We were able to look out at the river during our meal. I ordered Bangers & Mash which came with chips too. So basically it was sausage, potatoes and more potatoes! Yummy! Shawn and I noticed that everything here is really salty, which explains why my hands are swollen!
After lunch we went to The People's Park and walked around. It was great to see all the families playing with their children, plus there was a really great field where a group of guys was playing soccer (or football!). Nice! It was a beautiful park but Shawn and I were getting a bit worn out so we headed back to the hotel for a rest. Now time to relax before heading out to a couple of pubs tonight!
