McGaughey Visit

While the McGaughey's were visiting, they wanted to check out the Texas State House, which is located here in Austin.  Apparently it is the largest State House in the country.  Fun fact.  It was a beautiful building and our tour guide was interesting.  It was definitely reinforced about a 100 times that Texas is the biggest and the best.
At everything.
All the time.
Why anyone would want to live anywhere else is crazy.
This place is nutty.

For some reason my pictures won't upload in the proper direction...so here are the pictures from the State House all sideways!

Scenes from a Lach-McGaughey-Richardson-Manning Thanksgiving

As you know, Shawn's family was here visiting for Thanksgiving.  They just left this morning (after Stephanie joined Mom, Mimi and I for some EARLY morning Black Friday shopping!) and we hope that they can come back to visit soon!  Here are some scenes from our Thanksgiving Day...

"It's my first Thanksgiving!"  After we ate he got some Turkey Dinner baby food and then some pumpkin.  He did NOT like the pumpkin.  Ian took some hilarious pictures.  I will get some from him to post because they are great!

Shane found the big tree in Mimi and Ian's backyard to climb.  He was trying to reach the cactus...no luck.

Dinner is served!  We brined the turkey a la Alton Brown (he is a food genius!) and it was delicious!  Lots of left overs :)  Stephanie was nice enough to bring me a few bottle of my favorite Oliver Wine from Indiana. Love that stuff!

Family picture :)

As the night was winding down Shawn decided to read Logan a book.  So sweet!

We had a great Thanksgiving and then did some serious shopping this morning.  Now time for my nap before I head to work tonight.  I made sugar cream pie from scratch (since we're not in Indiana and so no one has heard of it) for Thanksgiving and I am taking one to work tonight so everyone can see how awesome it is!

A Visit

Shawn's family arrived Monday evening for a Thanksgiving visit.  They haven't been down to Austin before, so we went out yesterday to give them the basic driving tour.  Here are a few pictures we took of the views.

Today we are going to visit the State House then of course tomorrow is Thanksgiving!! Yay!  That is really exciting because after Thanksgiving is Christmas!  My favorite!

Also, we got an ExerSaucer for Logan to keep at our place.  So cute!  He loves it!

Snuggle-Bear Logan

Last night was Yappy Hour at the dog park in our apartment complex, so we picked up Mimi's dogs and brough them over to socialize along with Marcie.  Logan got to come out too and watch all the dogs play.  He looked so freakin' cute!

He has also discovered his tongue and his voice.  We got a video...but I need to get it on the computer so I'll post in on Monday.  Promise!  He is so adorable...we are completely in love with this sweet baby!

We went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  I need to see it one more time before I comment though.  Just wait.  You'll get my opinion soon :)

Just an ordinary day

When I got home from work this morning, my plan was to sleep for a couple of hours then get up and find something to do.  So I did.  I put up my Christmas Tree!
Typically I wait until Thanksgiving Day to put up my tree, but we're doing Thanksgiving at Mimi's house this year so we'll be putting up her tree.  So I get to put mine up early :)  I LOVE my Christmas Tree!

As I was putting up the tree I got a few really cute pictures of Marcie too!

What we're doing

Sorry about the lack of blooging recently.  Not really anthing that stands out...and I haven't taken any good pictures lately!  Even of Logan!  So here's a rundown of what we have been doing lately.

Wizard World Comic Con
This past Saturday, Shawn, Ian and I spent all day at Austin's first Comic Convention.  It wasn't as good as the one in Chicago, but it was Austin's first time so hopefully it will get better.  Shawn still had an awesome time, as usual!  We saw looks of good dorks in goofy costumes...so it made me really appreciate my husband. He's not the biggest nerd out there!

Game Night
Mimi and Logan were over the other night and we had a game night...because Eric wanted to!  I love the my 15 year old brother still likes to spend time with all of us :)  How great is that?  I hope my kids are like that too.  Logan again helped us hold our cards.  He is so ready for game night!  We played Quiddler (which is an awesome word game that you should find and play if you like word games!) and I won!  Eric will try to say that he won, but he took like 30 minutes for his last turn trying to rearrange his letters in such way that we would have more points than me, which he succeeded in doing (winning my only 8 points) but we all had decided that the game was already over.  Sorry Eric ;)

Thanksgiving Preparations
Shawn's parents are coming to visit us for Thanksgiving!  They will be here Monday, which means that I  have already started getting food purchased and getting the apartment ready.  I also will be putting up my Christmas tree tomorow :)  I usually wait until Thanksgiving day, but we'll be at Mimi's house (since it is bigger and there is a yard for the dogs) so we'll be putting up her tree instead of mine.  I LOVE my Christmas tree...so I am crazy excited!

Other than that stuff, we're just working.  Our lives are not exciting!

Logan's Photo Shoot

Pam of A la Vie Photography did an amazing job photographing Logan recently!  The pictures all turned out absolutely wonderful...especially considering Logan wasn't in the greatest mood that day. Whenever I need pictures, she's gonna be the photographer we use :)   Here is my favorite picture of my most perfect nephew!  All the pictures are posted on Logan's Shutterfly Share Page...password is melanie.

The Light

Throughout my life, I have come to enjoy many different types of music.  I really don't think there is any kind of music that I can't at least appreciate, even if it is something that I wouldn't want to listen to regularly (for example, the screaming metal stuff that Eric loves).  That being said, I have always loved to sing and dance, so anything that I can sing to is usually my favorite.  Over the last few years I have found 3 female musicians that I absolutely love!  I could listen to all of their music, any day, any time.  I buy the full albums, because the best songs are the ones you'd never hear on the radio.

The first musician I am sure you've heard of: Taylor Swift.
I know that she's crazy popular, but I admit it...I love her music.  Her music takes me back to when I was 15.  She doesn't try to be something she's not and I love that you can follow her growing up and maturing in her music.  Her new album, Speak Now, just came out last week and it is great!  Totally lives up to her previous 2 albums.
My favorite song: The Best Day

The second musician I am sure you've probably never heard of: Erin McCarley.
I met her a few years ago when she was doing a tour called the Ten out of Tenn tour.  It was a tour of 10 musicians that live in Nashville, TN and are trying to make it big in music.  One of my favorite male musicians, Andy Davis, was on this tour which is what drew my attention.  My friend Megan McVicker and I when to Indianapolis to work the merchandise table for the show, which is where I first heard her music.  She's amazing!  He only has one album so far, Love, Save the Empty, but it is great!
My favorite song: Bobblehead

The last musician is Sara Bareilles
She entered the spotlight a couple of years ago with the song Love Song.  It was a huge hit and I decided to get her whole album because I loved that song...and I was surprised to find that it was one of my least favorite songs on the album!  Her new album was released recently and it is even better.  Her songs seems to really speak to the listeners...no matter what you're feeling.  One song inparticular spoke to me and I wanted to share the lyrics.

The Light
In the morning it comes, heaven sent a hurricane.
Not a trace of the sun, but I don't even run from rain.
Beating out of my chest, my heart is holding on to you.
From the moment I knew.
From the moment I knew.

You're the air in my breath, filling up my love soaked lungs.
Such a beautiful mess, intertwined and overrun.
Nothing better than this, ooh and then the storm can come.
You feel just like the sun.
Just like the sun.

And if you say we'll be alright.
I'm gonna trust you babe.
I'm gonna look in your eyes.
And if you say we'll be alright, I'll follow you into the light.

Nevermind what I knew. Nothing seems to matter now.
Ooh, who I was without you, I can do without.
No one knows where it ends, how it may come tumbling down.
But I'm here with you now.
Here with you now.

Let the world come rush in.
Come down hard, come crushing.
All I need is right here beside me.
I'm not enough, I swear it.
But take my love and wear it over your shoulders.

And if you say we'll be alright.
I'm gonna trust you babe.
I'm gonna look in your eyes.
And if you say we'll be alright, I'll follow you into the light.

This song makes me thing of my wonderful husband, Shawn.  I tell him everyday, but I hope he always knows how much I love him and what he means to me!  I love when music can say what is in your heart...especially because I am not very poetic and I can't always write or speak the true magnitude of what is in my heart and mind.  This is probably one of the reasons music brings me to tears so often...seriously, almost daily! One of the many reasons I love music so much.
