My Musical Days of Christmas: Days 6 & 7

I can't believe I forgot to post my song yesterday!  I worked the last 3 nights and I also had a doctors appointment, so it just slipped my mind with trying to sleep and all :)  So anyway, here are two songs to catch up!

Day 6

This song is from one of my favorite Christmas albums of all time.  The album is probably 15 years old and the song needs no introduction!

Day 7

Last year Mimi got me a couple of new Christmas CD's for my birthday.  They were both short CD's, with only 5 songs, but the songs are great.  Taylor Swift puts a unique twist on come Christmas favorites with a bit of country twang thrown into a few.  This is my favorite take on the traditional Christmas classic, Slient Night.  I have never really found a version of this song that was anything I considered to be very special...just another voice singing the same song.  Taylor Swift found a way to make it her own.

My Musical Days of Christmas: Day 5

For anyone around my age, 'NSync was popular at a time that we were just outgrowing boy bands.  New Kids on the Block was more up our alley back in the day :)  I am not ashamed to say that I did like 'NSync...not so much 98 Degress or The Backstreet Boys though.  I saw 'NSync in concert when I was in college (although I did claim that I only went to take Sara as a gift!) and it was a great show!  My next favorite Christmas song comes from the boy band, 'NSync.

This is an acapella version of this song and I think it is just beautiful! I really love this Christmas song and there are many other versions that I like quite a lot as well...it was hard to choose this one as my favorite.  Mariah Carey has a nice version on her Merry Christmas album as well as Celine Dion on These Are The Special Times.  'NSync does this song very well though.

My Musical Days of Christmas: Day 4

This next song is from one of my FAVORITE Christmas movies.  ELF!  I am not a huge Will Ferrell fan, but he was so perfect as Buddy the Elf that you can't help but love him.  Elf has to be one of the best quoting movies of all time.

I could go on, but I think I'll just watch the movie instead (although to be honest, I have already watched Elf this holiday season...on Thanksgiving.)

In the film, Jovie is played by the actress Zooey Deschanel.  There is a scene in the film where Buddy hears her singing in the shower and he enters the bathroom and begins to sing along.  The song, Baby It's Cold Outside, is on the Elf soundtrack sung by Zooey Deschanel and Leon Redbone.  Although many artists have performed this song over the years (I think I have 6 in my iTunes) this version is my favorite.  I love Zooey's voice...she should do some more singing.



San Antonio

Thursday, after Shawn got off of work, we packed and headed to San Antonio for the Men's Wearhouse annual Holiday Party.  It is a pretty nice party that the company throws each year.  We went to the Holiday Party for the Chicago-land area last year too and had a great time. Shawn got pretty fancy with his tux this year, and I reused my dress in order to save money.  No pictures of me from the night, but here is my handsome hubby in his tux :)

This  year, since it was in San Antonio, we decided to stay the night and then explore San Antonio on Friday.  We walked all over downtown and the riverwalk, which was so nice because it turned out to be a BEAUTIFUL day!  Weather in the 70's!  Awesome for December 3rd!

We started our day with a breakfast at a little Mexican diner called Cafe Alameda.  My juevos rancheros was pretty good...although the potatoes were crazy spicy!  Then we headed to the Alamo.  I learned a lot...although I am a bit confused about a lot of the "facts" and "details presented as facts."  A bit of history that seems a bit fuzzy to me.

After a bit more rambling around the city, we headed to the Buckhorn Saloon & Museum.  It was a pretty interested museum...althought not quite worth the price of admission!  Basically it was a museum of stuff animals from all over the world, an Old West Town, and the museum of the Texas Rangers with the history of how the Rangers began policing Texas many years ago.

We spent a lot of the day just walking around the Riverwalk.  We stopped at a few places for drinks and food. Yummy!  Happy Hour started at some places at 2pm...woohoo!

We took a boat ride on the river after dark so we could see all the Christmas lights.  It was so nice!  The Christmas Tree in the center of the mall was beautiful!  We really had a great day!



My Musical Days of Christmas: Day 3

I know my post is almost late...but Shawn and I were in San Antonio from yesterday evening until about an hour ago when we got home.  I will post some pictures tomorow from that trip!

As for my next installment of Christmas Music favorites...Surely you have all seen The Polar Express.  It was a wonderful book and luckily turned into a great film.  The music from that film is one of the best parts...from the score, to the vocal music throughout the film, to the next song on my list.

I think that Josh Groban has one of the most beautiful voices ever and I still remember the first time I heard this song.  It passed my most stringent of music quality tests: the goosebump test.  This is the method I have used since I was a child.  If a piece of music gives me goosebumps then it passes, which means it is a great song.  Believe is a song that passes with flying colors.  Although it is a Christmas song, the main message is universal. 

You have everything you need, if you just believe.

On a side note, Shawn and I are headed to San Antonio tonight for the yearly Men's Wearhouse Holiday Party.  It will be at the Marriott Riverwalk near the Alamo.  We've never been to San Antonio so we're staying the night tonight then we'll spend Friday doing touristy things.  Should be fun!

My Musical Days of Christmas: Day 1

It is December!! I love December for two reasons: Christmas of course...and my birthday.  I don't really like my birthdays too much anymore though.  Turning 30 has kind of put a kink in my joyful birthday celebrations.  Oh well...at least I still have Christmas, where you always feel young at heart :)  Christmas is such a great time to bring out your inner child...hehe.

One of my favorite things about Christmas is the music. I LOVE Christmas music! Shawn and I listen to our Christmas playlist in the summer sometimes! I decided that for the 24 days leading up to Christmas this year I will share one of my favorite Christmas songs with you.  Enjoy!
